your first appointment

When you come to your first appointment with us you will be greeted by our friendly staff at reception before seeing one of our experts. You may be asked to fill out an information sheet detailing any past treatments and information about your health fund and work cover if applicable — so don’t forget to come prepared with all the nitty gritty details!

Once sitting down with one of our team for your initial appointment, your assigned expert will want to learn about your day to day lifestyle, work, existing health conditions and all about your injury. They may as some of the questions detailed below:

What is your injury?

Can you explain your injury? Where is the injury located? Is the injury localised or does it affect multiple muscle groups?

2.
When did the pain start?

Can you pinpoint when the injury started? Was it whilst doing a certain activity? Did it start as mild pain and has increased?

3.
Can the pain be relieved?

Is there anything you can do to relieve the pain? Does icing the area or resting the injury help? Can you keep the area for recovery purposes?

 

4.
How has the injury impacted your day?

Has this injury impacted your day-to-day life? Are you unable to concentrate at work or participate in regular daily activities such as sport as you would normally do?

5.
Have you had Previous treatment?

Is this a reoccurring injury? Does it tend to go away by itself? Have you seeked any treatment for this injury before? Have you taken medication or been given exercises for this injury before?

6.
Have you had
any recent surgeries?

Do you have any medical conditions such as previous fractures, surgeries, chronic conditions and any other injuries you have sustained in the past?

 

Whilst at your appointments you may be asked to perform movements and stretches that will allow our professionals to determine where the pain is located and if you have any movement restrictions. Our team will talk through short and long term options to get you back on your feet and back to your regular sporting or day-to-day activities as soon as possible.

FAQs

Do you take workcover patients?

Yes we take workcover patients, please provide your WorkCover medical certificate and WorkCover claim number from your GP to our friendly staff at reception. 

Do you Take Medico-legal cases?

Yes. Dr Stephen Ruff who has over 40 years as a trauma and general orthopaedic surgeon who is certified to provide medico-legal advice as well as return to work assessments for patients and businesses needing his expertise.

Do I need a doctors referral to visit the practice?

No, you will not need a referral for us to treat you. Please make an appointment below or call (02) 8916 6380.

Is there a cancellation policy?

We understand that life doesn’t always go to plan and occasionally you may not be able to attend your session. Should you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please inform us at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time. If you fail to notify us and do not turn up to your appointment you will be charged 50% of the normal cost of the session.

Is there on-site parking available?

There is no parking available onsite however there is a secure undercover parking in the street over on Shelley Street (just a short 2 minute walk from Optisports). Read more about parking and public transport when travelling to Optisports on our facilities page.
